The Fire Code

In accordance with the National Building code, the Fire Code requires emergency
power systems that energize any life safety equipment to be inspected, tested
and maintained in conformance with Canadian Standards Association CSA-C282,
*Emergency Electrical Power Supply for Buildings*.

The following items are considered life safety equipment:
  • Emergency lighting Fire alarm and emergency voice communications systems
  • Firefighters' elevators and elevators serving above the first storey
  • Fire protection water supply (electrical) pumps
  • Smoke control systems
  • Smoke venting fans
  • Exit signs (electrical)
